Ni’ima (Acrylic on Canvas) - 2020

£350.00

This is NI’IMA meaning bliss in Hausa. This was one of the first ever pieces that I‘d created during lockdown - a time of uncertainty and anxiety. I found solace in returning to a practice that felt like home - painting. The stillness of the pandemic disturbed my serenity. Hence, returning to things that connected me to normality helped me return to the balance that I once had. Out of the storm of my emotions came Ni’ima. The reference image used was something that I found on Unsplash. I then made it my own by exaggerating the colours and allowing my imagination to direct me. My work is less about the outcome and more about the process. Every brushstroke, the decisions made on colours etc, are a direct reflection of my emotions, and that’s why all my pieces have a special place in my heart.

Note: This will be for sale at the Crib Tales Exhibition that will be held on the 12th of October.

Dimensions: 40.6 x 50.8 cm (16 x 20 inch)
